Why do I “destroy” my original art?
Listen to this 4 minute & 28 second blogcast explaining exactly why.
It all began here at the KEXP radio mural…back in 2016
Hello, beautiful. So whoever is listening to this, I am super excited because this is the first blog that I am posting on my new website. And I wanted to make sure that my blog was active. I was like, Okay, let's do it, we get all these different platforms, I really want to take advantage of sharing my content on multiple platforms. But primarily, I want that content to be present on my home website. Your girl started sitting down, ready to write a blog post. And it was a no for me. Okay, y'all know, I am a talker. I'm a verbal communicator. I love sharing my story on YouTube. So I was like, instead of trying to do this and write all this stuff, let's do the audio. So if you are listening to this right now, thank you so much. I'm gonna walk you through a bit of the journey.
Okay, so let's dive into this: new polls. Oh, my God, Is everybody okay? Okay. Okay, I titled this, "Why do I destroy my original art?" Now, of course, that is being a bit dramatic, because I don't consider myself destroying my work, but I did cut up a painting that I had recently created for the Paramount Theater. Now I painted this back in the day. I painted this in 2020. That's not too far back in time. But y'all know what? This panini press, like, time is so warped; it feels like so long ago, even though it was still so recent. So this is something that I was inspired to do, because I actually have done it before. And if you are for-real For-Real OG, then you might remember the large scale purple Goddess that I painted in front of the KEXP radio station, which is located in Seattle Center. Below, you'll see some pictures that I included, that was a part of that process, way in the past.
And so now I'm doing that, again, for my Patrons who are in my Supernova tier; and part of it for me as to why I cut up murals, really, it's about just sharing my work. The other aspect of it is if I don't have room for the pieces, as well as keeping it out of the landfills; because part of it is that if the venue doesn't want the painting anymore, or if it has to come down because it was a temporary installation, now it's like 'where does this piece go?'; instead of storing it in my studio space, it's like, Okay, here's a perfect opportunity to actually cut up these original pieces and give them to my collectors. So years in the future, people who've been rocking with me for a long time can be like, 'Yes, I still have a piece of that!' And I love hearing that from supporters who have been on the journey with me since 2016, and they actually still have this piece in their home - I'm truly, truly honored.
So here's what I'm going to do coming up into this new year. Alright y'all, I'm recording this in February of 2022 and I'm ready to start a new leap. And I'm about to do things my way. And my way is talking, communicating not being on every single platform we focusin and we getin very intentional about what I want to share but also how I want to share it. In this social media space it feels very stressful, okay. I think any artists, entrepreneur, small business owner, or just any individual can relate to all of us just being inundated with so much information and so much stimuli. I really want to focus my energy and get clear about who I want to connect with how I want to connect and what I want to share. So this is literally my first journey into this. If you are listening to this, I would absolutely love it. If you wrote down in the comments below, right here on my personal blog that you are listening say that, "You are listening," okay, let me know that you actually press play on this audio recording. And I thank you so much for being with me. If you want to learn more about how to actually get one of these pieces from the Paramount mural, I am gifting those to my Supernova Patrons. So if you are already a Patron - it is coming to your mailbox soon Boo, so you don't even have to worry. But if you aren't a Patron, I welcome you and I invite you to join the Patreon community during the month of February. I think we're cutting this off by March 8 or 10th or something I'm-I'mma put all that information below but if you want to join the Patreon community that is how you get a piece of this original painting and I'mma drop some more that information below. Thank you so much for being here with me. Comment below that you are listening and you are here and check out the follow up YouTube video that is linked with this audio. Thank you so much and I'm sending you all the love and the light.
